Tanzania hosts more than 240,000 refugees and asylum-seekers, mainly from Burundi and Democratic Republic of Congo. Over 80 percent of the refugees in Tanzania live in two camps located in the country’s Northwestern region of Kigoma (Nduta and Nyarugusu Camps).
The country has experienced steady economic growth in recent years. However, 27 percent of the population still live below the poverty line and an additional 8 percent live in extreme poverty. Malnutrition rates are high and an estimated 59 percent of families cannot afford a nutritious diet.
JOINT HUB SUPPORT
The Joint Hub support to WFP and UNHCR country operations in Tanzania focused on data interoperability, which resulted in the deployment of biometric interoperability solution that allowed WFP to use its beneficiary information and transfers management platform (SCOPE) with UNHCR biometrics.
