Chad is home to more than 1.5 million people who were forced to leave their homes, including 1.3 million refugees and 200,000 internally displaced Chadians. Most refugees have fled the ongoing conflict in neighbouring Sudan, while others have come from the Central African Republic, Nigeria, and Cameroon. In 2024, the country faced its worst lean season on record, leaving 3.4 million people acutely food insecure.

JOINT HUB SUPPORT

The Joint Hub has been supporting WFP and UNHCR country operations in responding to the needs of forcibly displaced people in Chad, including Sudanese refugees, internally displaced Chadians, and host communities. In July 2024, WFP and UNHCR signed a Scope of Work (SoW) with the Joint Hub to strengthen collaboration and jointly design and implement a needs and socio-economic assessment. These efforts aim to revise the targeting strategy, enhance accountability to affected populations, support long-term planning for self-reliance and inclusion, and foster documentation and learning. Since 2024, the Joint Hub has supported both agencies in Chad and, at their request, has engaged IOM and UNDP in strategic and technical discussions.
