Jordan hosts the world’s second-highest number of refugees per capita. Some 730,000 refugees are registered with UNHCR, predominantly from Syria, with large groups from Iraq, Yemen, Sudan, and Somalia. The majority of them – 81 percent – live in urban areas and the remaining ones in the Zaatari and Azraq refugee camps. More than 75 percent of refugees are food insecure.

The country has limited agricultural land and increasingly frequent climate-related shocks. Over the past decade, its economy has remained stagnant and unable to generate sufficient employment.

JOINT HUB SUPPORT

Following a request from UNHCR and WFP, the Joint Hub has supported the country operations to develop a joint targeting strategy and prioritization implementation for non-Syrian refugees. The exercise, completed in 2022, has been informed by extensive community consultations.
